Year 6 Mental Arithmetic: Sets 1 and 2
This is the start of a whole new series of pages for year 6 mental arithmetic. Over the coming weeks we will be publishing 2 sets of 10 mental arithmetic questions each week.
The first two sets of questions are basic revision and ideal to use at the start of the school term. They look at reading and writing larger numbers, place value and multiplying and dividing by ten. Nothing too tricky here, but some important concepts are covered. Children need to be confident with multiplying and dividing by ten, including decimals. Watch out for the common mistake of saying that 0.6 x 10 is 0.60 rather than 6. This comes about when children have been told to 'add a nought' when multiplying by 10. (Not a good idea!)
