One of the key issues in primary maths at the moment is how to develop children’s reasoning and problem solving skills. In the classroom children are being asked more and more to solve mathematical problems and to explain the reasoning behind their choice of method. Explanations can be oral or written. We have just published three new sets of problem solving/reasoning worksheets for Year 4 which include asking for explanations. They can all be found in our Reasoning/Problem Solving category which now has well over 80 pages of activities, including solving problems involving time, money and measurement as well as more open ended investigations. These are well worth looking at.
