What's new: Division by grouping
One way of understanding division is to think of it as equal grouping. In other words, you have a number of objects and split them up into piles of the same amount.
8 divided by 2 can be thought of as 'How many equal groups of 2 can be made from 8?'
These four pages look at this idea and use pictures to help. It is recommended that children draw shapes round the groups, or 'lots of' and then count the number of shapes they have drawn.
