Year 1 Addition: Make 10 (loops)
Here is a great little game to help with year 1 addition of numbers which make 10.
Play this game with a partner. It's probably best to start with the easier grid. Decide who is to go first. The first player looks at the numbers in the grid and finds two that are next to each other that make a total of 10 when added. egĀ 9 and 1 or 8 and 2.
Draw a loop round the numbers. That scores one point.
Then let player 2 go.
Rules to begin with:
1. Numbers next to each other can mean across, down or diagonally (ie touching only at a corner).
2. The loop does not have to be in a straight line; it could go across and then down.
3. More than two numbers totalling 10 is allowed (eg 4 + 5 + 1)
4. The player who finds the most loops wins.
