Maths worksheet: Shapes from 5 cubes
Little can be found on 3D shape when browsing for maths worksheets, yet it is an important part of maths throughout the curriculum. This page looks at making shapes out of 5 cubes. Four 5-cubed shapes are drawn on paper and the first task is to try and make them. You need interlocking cubes for this activity. The second task is to try and make further shapes from the 5 cubes. A lot of discussion points can be raised here as it is not easy to recognise that a shape is identical to another if viewed it has been turned round.
A further extension to this activity is to work with a partner, each with 5 cubes, make a shape and then describe it to your partner (without showing them) and see if they can make the same shape.
