Recognising pentagons and hexagons
The names of several shapes are introduced in Year 2, including the pentagon (5 sides) and hexagon (6 sides). This set of pages checks the properties of these shapes and also includes a Carroll diagram for sorting them by shape and colour. This can be quite tricky for young children and it is always a good idea to have plenty of 2D shapes available to handle and to discuss the properties eg number of sides, angles etc. Remember that pentagons and hexagons do not have to have sides of equal length this property makes them regular pentagons or regular hexagons.
These pages can be found inour Year 2 Shape and Measures category.
