Year 2 maths: number squares
Children often use number squares to help them with their calculating, although sooner or later the aim is to rely on memory and fast recall of number facts. This week we are publishing a resource which uses a number square in a different way. Only part of the number square is shown and most of the numbers are missing. The task is to correctly fill the gaps.
Whilst this might seem easy to us, there is quite a lot of maths involved, including being able to count up and back in ones, recognising that the number immediately below a given number in the square is ten more, as well as spacial awareness.
Some children will find these very tricky to begin with, but as confidence grows they should be able to complete them quickly and accurately.
