Year 2 multiplication: missing numbers
Children get very used to 'doing tables' and multiplication questions which are presented in a straightforward way with the question set out and just one correct answer possible. This set of pages presents them with something slightly different. The answer to the multiplication is given, but the two numbers that need to be multiplied are missing.
The questions are set out in pairs so that the child has to think of two different ways of reaching the answer. For example:
? x ? = 10 could be answered with:
2 x 5 = 10 or
1 x 10 = 10
Children might use the same digits and just reverse them: this is good reinforcement of the idea that multiplication can be done in any order.
