Year 2 maths resources: Week 18
It's exactly half way through the year for our weekly programme of 36 weeks worth of year 2 maths resources meeting the Primary Framework for Maths planning.
This week is mainly about Handling Data and there is some pretty tricky stuff here for children in Year 2.
As well as the usual four sets of mental arithmetic we also have a great Challenge: 'How many counters can you place on a 3 by 3 grid without getting three in a row?' This can be extended to a 4 by 4 grid, or even more if you want to challenge yourself!
We continue to provide resources on sorting information; the first of these is a straightforward page on sorting names, but the second set is much harder, using Venn diagrams.
We also have pages on block graphs, featuring favourite pets, which covers both interpreting the graph and creating graphs from data collected.
As we move towards spring there is a pictogram showing the sunniest months of the year: after a cold winter just what we need! Again, children should be encouraged to keep their own data and make their own decisions. (What counts as a sunny day is a good starting point.)
