Year 2 maths: 4 dart challenge
Here is another great little investigation for Year 2 children which will help with adding several small numbers, logical thinking and working in a methodical way.
There are three possible scores on the board, 5 for the outer ring, 10 for the middle and 20 for the bull. Given that all the four darts score, what possible totals can be achieved?
In fact there are a surprisingly large number and they are all multiples of 5. If all the possibilities are to be found then a methodical system needs to be used eg start with all four scoring the lowest possible score, making 20 in total, then having three darts score 5 and one dart score 10, making 15 and so on.
It is also good reinforcement of the idea that addition can be done in any order; a score of 5, 5, 5, 10 is just the same as 5, 10, 5, 5 etc.
