Year 2 fractions worksheets
If there is one word that seems to strike fear into many adults it is 'fractions'. Yet, if the simple ideas are fully understood then the rest is easy. In Year 2 children need to understand how to find a quarter of something before they try to find three quarters. To colour three quarters of a shape it firstly needs to be divided into four equal parts and then three of the parts can be coloured.
To find three quarters of a number or set of objects also requires two steps:
1. find one quarter by dividing by 4 or sharing into four equal amounts
2. multiplying the answer by 3, or combining three of the equal amounts.
The best way to understand fractions is to use practical apparatus, move pennies, counters, cubes etc around to share them into two equal amounts (halves), or four equal amounts (quarters) and then combine them to make three quarters etc. But our worksheets provide excellent back up material and are great as a check to see if it has all been understood.
