Year 2 Handling Data: Weather chart
Here we have quite an advanced weather chart for children in Year 2 to get to grips with. It shows the weather for March in the form of a chart with images to show the different types of weather.
It is not easy to find suitable data for young children to interpret, but not only does it do this, it goes on to ask children to collate the information as a tally chart and then as a bar graph. Showing the data in this form makes it easier to see immediately which types of weather were the most common.
Why not go on to collect weather data for a month. There is a great deal to discuss when recording results - with plenty of tricky questions to answer: What counts as a sunny day? What time of day are we recording the weather? etc. etc.
