Year 6 mental arithmetic: Sets 7 and 8
This week's mental arithmetic questions for Year 6 are all about fractions. They are looking mainly at equivalent fractions and checking that children know that:
1. there are two quarters in a half
2. there are ten tenths in one whole one
3. to find two tenths of a number, find one tenth by dividing by ten and then multiply the answer by two (or as two tenths is equivalent to one fifth, just divide by 5).
Two of the questions also require the ability to divide decimals by ten. This is done by moving each digit one place to the right, including going past the decimal point. When writing answers involving money remember to keep to two decimal places: e.g. £0.20 rather than £0.2 or £0.200.
