Maths SAT Paper A 2011 Questions and answers 1 and 2
The first two questions are a gentle introduction to the paper, but there is still plenty of scope for children to misinterpret the questions or make silly calculating errors and lose valuable marks.
The first question is testing knowledge of odd and even numbers, the term ‘greater than’ and a little logical thinking.
The clue to answering this easily is to read the whole question before starting. Once it has been stated that Holly’s number is odd then the 5 must go in the units as it is the only odd number.
The first part can then be answered. From this point it becomes easy to complete the number sentence.

A knowledge of ‘times tables’ makes the second question quite easy.To help with this it should be recognised that multiplying one number from each of the first two circles should make one of the numbers in the third circle. The end result of the number sentence will then be zero.
If the answer is not recognised immediately the best approach is to choose one of the numbers from the first circle and multiply it by one of the numbers in the second circle.
e.g.
4 x 6 = 24
4 x 7 = 28
4 x 8 = 32
5 x 6 = 30
