More division without remainders
Once children have begun to learn the times tables 'off by heart' they need plenty of opportunty to put them into practice, and what better way than answering some quickfire division questions. The time taken to complete these pages accurately will give a big clue as to how well times tables have been learnt.
Children might need pointing out that a problem such as 10 divided by 2 can be seen as 'how many twos are there in ten' or '2 times what makes ten?' At this point it is clear how knowing tables helps.
If tables are not known it is very difficult indeed to answer these questions without the help of practical equipment. I have seen children trying to answer a question such as 28 divided by 4 by drawing 28 dots and then dividing them up! As you can imagine this might reach a correct solution but is very time consuming.
