Maths worksheet: 100m women
The Women’s 100 metres has been run ever since 1928 and is one of the most popular of all events. It is a track event which has never been won by Great Britain, although Dorothy Manley (1948) and Dorothy Hyman (1960) both claim close by winning the Silver medal.
The winning times have steadily come down over the years. The first winner, Elizabeth Robinson, won in 12.2 seconds, whilst Shelly-Ann Fraser from Jamaica won in 2008 with a time of 10.78. It will probably be many years before the magic 10 second barrier will be broken.
This worksheet looks at the results of some of the most famous winners. Some questions require subtraction of numbers with two decimal places. It also requires for average speeds (metres per second) to worked out, so it is definitely for the better mathematicians!
