Changes to the EYFS Framework
The reformed EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) has now come into effect making considerable changes to the original document published by the Government in 2008. As far as Maths is concerned the main changes are to do with numbers.
In the new Framework children are expected to be able to:
count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20
place numbers in order and say which is one more or one less than a given number
using quantities or objects:
add and subtract two single digit numbers
count on and back to find an answer
double and halve.
All of this work has been included in the Year 1 resources but we have begun to add some new resources in the Later Reception category to take account of these expectations.
This week we have published 7 new resources:
Counting beyond 10
Counting on in ones
Ordering numbers up to 20
Adding two single-digit numbers with answers above 9
Subtract larger numbers
Double numbers
Find one less and one more than with larger numbers
