Maths Paper A 2011 Question 24 with answers
This is an unusual question at the end of the paper. Please make sure that any page scaling or ‘fit to page’ are not on when printing question 24, or the 6cm and 8cm lines may well print smaller than they should be.

Two marks are awarded for a quadrilateral drawn with an angle in the range of 730 to 770 inclusive AND length of the sloping line in the range 9.1 cm to 9.3 cm inclusive.
If the answer is incorrect award ONE mark for:
a. a completed quadrilateral with an angle in the range of 730 to 770 inclusive
or
b. a completed quadrilateral drawn with an angle in the range of 720 to 780 inclusive AND length of sloping line in the range 9.0 cm to 9.4 cm.
Lines extended past the vertex are accepted.
This question is a level 5 question and will prove very hard for children who are not familiar with using a protractor. The first thing to do is to measure an angle of 750, making a small mark on the edge of the protractor at the 750 mark. Then draw a straight line using a ruler from the bottom right which measures exactly 9.2 cm. From this point the final line across can be drawn. A longer line can be drawn and then marked accurately at 9.2 cm.
It is quite tricky to draw an angle at an exact number of degrees and, of course, any errors become more apparent the longer the line is drawn.
Look out for children who make a mark at the 1050 mark, who have read the protractor incorrectly.
