Introducing factors
The key thing to remember with regard to factors is that the factors of a number can be multiplied together to make that number.
For example: the factors of 9 are 1, 3 and 9 because:
1 x 9 = 9
3 x 3 = 9.
Children can relate to this with regard to times tables: factors are the two numbers multiplied to reach the answer (e.g. 4 x 6 = 24; 4 and 6 are factors of 24)
This set of pages looks at the factors of 10, 12 and 24 and shows a practical use for factors when drawing rectangles.
