Year 3 Maths Programme: week 31
We start this week's programme with a couple of pages on subtracting by adjusting. This means carrying out an easier subtraction and then adjusting to make up the difference (e.g. subtract 19 by taking 20 and then adding 1). Strategies such of this are vital if children are going to become really quick with mental arithmetic. This is followed by work on putting amounts of money in order of size, including amounts shown in pounds and amounts in pence (e.g. £0.37 73p etc).
However, the main theme of the week is Handling Data with work on tally charts, Venn diagrams and graphs. The graph work concentrates on the vertical axis going up in twos rather than ones, looking at graphs of popular cars and types of bird seen at a nature reserve.
Also included this week are pages on adding 99p to amounts of money and change from 50p.
