Year 3 maths programme: week 32
This week's programme covers a wide range of maths, starting with some straightforward addition of 2-digit numbers. Actually, this is hard and children need to be able to use a number of different strategies to complete these quickly. For example, we usually add the tens first when adding mentally, the opposite of what we do on paper!
We then move on to some co-ordinate work, where the squares are labelled either by number or alphabetically. Later, of course, it is the lines which are numbered, but the main point of this is to get children used to 'going along' before 'going up' when reading co-ordinates.
Other activities include reading scales and measuring accurately in centimetres, solving problems involving time and recognising the properties of 3D shapes.
