Year 3 Number Programme of Study (statutory requirements)
Year 3 Number Programme of Study
Number has got harder for Year 3 children, with the introduction of counting up in fours and eights.
Number and place value
Pupils should be taught to:
• count from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100; find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number
• recognise the place value of each digit in a three-digit number (hundreds, tens, ones)
• compare and order numbers up to 1000
• identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations
• read and write numbers up to 1000 in numerals and in words
• solve number problems and practical problems involving these ideas.
What’s new and comments
Counting on and back will progress to larger numbers. Starting with any small number, it is now expected that children will be able to count on in steps of 4, 8, 50 and 100.
As well as reading and writing numbers up to 1 000 children are also expected to understand what any digit in a three digit number represents e.g. the digit 5 in 567 has a value of 5 hundreds or 500, the 6 has a value of 6 tens or 60 and the 7 a value of 7 units.
We have added more counting pages to our collection so that all the targets are covered, including partitioning 3-digit numbers. Why not go to Year 3 Number worksheets now?
