Story writing for young children
Story writing for young children
We have had several requests for material on short story writing for young children following our very successful first four sets and we are pleased to announce a great new range of story writing topics, or ‘composition’ as the new primary curriculum calls it. From pirates to surfers, from dragons to fire engines, our inspirational worksheets for Year 1 and Year 2 provide a range of topics for writing sentences and short stories, with plenty of words and images to help.
The pages help children with planning and writing down ideas and key words, including new vocabulary they might like to use. Add colourful illustrations to the equation and story writing becomes fun and enjoyable. It is also important for children to talk about their ideas before writing, both with an adult and other children, so that they can clarify their thoughts and develop their ideas. Part of the fun of this type of story writing is that it does not have to be based on reality; watermelons can talk, dragons can breathe fire and everything can end happily (although try to avoid the 'ever after' bit).
