D Day worksheets
Tomorrow is June 6th, one of the most important dates in our history. Britain and her Allies had been at war for five years against Germany and her Axis alliance when the biggest invasion in history took place on June 6th 1944.
Codenamed Operation Overlord, it began with what is now known as D Day, the Normandy Landings. This French coastline was chosen because Hitler was expecting the Allies to cross the English Channel at the narrowest point, which would be around the Calais, Dunkirk area. By landing at Normandy they achieved both an element of surprise and a landing against a less well defended shoreline.
