Free holiday fun worksheets
On a bright note, we are well into the summer holiday now and we can all enjoy some long sunny days through August (apart from our friends in Australia and New Zealand). However, research has shown that it is also a time when children forget rather a lot of the maths they have been taught, so it is a good idea to dip into a few maths related activities.
This week we are highlighting a selection of fun maths activities, all freely available on the site:
• Simple Sudoku puzzles for young children. The traditional 9 by 9 puzzles can be quite daunting so why not start with an easy 4 by 4 puzzle, just using the numbers from 1 to 4? Good for logical thinking.

• Board games are a great way to improve logical thinking and maths concepts. A great favourite of mine, is Deadly Red, a game of strategy where the person who takes the red counter at the end loses! It might appear at first that it is luck as to who wins, but after playing a few times you might be able to work out a few strategies which will ensure you win most of the time. Other favourites include Three hexagon, Seven Line and 4 in a Row; all available on the site now.

• If you have a small collection of matchsticks or similar have a go at our amazing matchstick puzzles, all so simple once you know how to do them!
