Money worksheets: change from notes
Money worksheets: change from notes (years 2, 3 and 4)
This week we have been concentrating on writing more worksheets on money; always a popular subject! The first set is for Year 2 and look at finding change from a £10 note, a £20 note and a £50 note. Probably the best way to do these mentally is to count on, either in ones or tens and it demonstrates just how important it is to be able to count on accurately and quickly.
The Year 3 pages are similar but involve pence as well as pounds (multiples of 10p only). Here again counting on is the easiest way to proceed. For example:
Change from £5 if spending £3.60. Count on 40p to make £4 and then count on £1 to make £5. Answer £1.40.
A very common mistake is to see an answer of £2.40 for the above question; where the question has been split into two parts, but no account taken of making the next whole pound when counting on 40p. Watch out for this.
Finally, in Year 4 some very tricky questions involving pounds and pence. Again, the best way to do these is to count on; rather like shop keepers used to count out your change in years gone by!
