Roots: uni, bi, tri and quad
Latin and Greek are two languages that most of our children do not come across today, yet we have taken many of our words from these languages. Knowing the meaning of some of these Latin and Greek terms or roots can help us work out what the words we use today mean. For example, take a look at these roots which are all connected to number:
UNI means having only one: a unicycle has one wheel
BI means two: a bicycle has two wheels
TRI means three: a triangle has three sides
QUAD means four: a quadrilateral has four sides
There are many words beginning with these prefixes and we have just published a fun set of worksheets which look in much more detail at some of them.
