Weather vocabulary
More weather vocabulary
Recently we published two sets of worksheets on weather words, including sunny, rainy and windy words. We have now added to these to include more vocabulary for bad weather and words to describe different kinds of light. The first of these includes terms such as smog, overcast and thunderbolt, but the words to describe light are much trickier; incandescent, iridescent and crepuscular should provide a real challenge, even to the best spellers!
We also take a look at weather sayings. It’s surprising just how many sayings we have which use the weather, such as:
under the weather
fair weather friend
make heavy weather of
a storm in a teacup
and a face like thunder.
Working on these pages is excellent for the development of vocabulary but some of the phrases also conjure up amusing pictures and are well worth trying to illustrate.
