Fun maths
SAT tests for both Year 2 and Year 6 are now over for another year and the summer is just about here. Now is a time when it can be difficult to motivate children who have finished their tests and are looking forward to the next year so it is a good idea to have plenty of fun maths activities up your sleeve to keep the interest going. Fortunately we have a great selection of fun resources which test children’s logical thinking, many of which can be found in our Further Resources category. These include Matchstick Puzzles, Wet Break activities and Printable Board Games.
We have just added two sets to these, called Criss Cross Addition and Criss Cross Subtraction. Those of us who remember 1960’s TV will be familiar with Criss Cross Quiz, where noughts and crosses is played with questions. The format is similar. A grid of 9 or 16 squares forms the board game and there are 7 numbers to choose from to add or subtract to match the numbers on the board. A calculator is needed to check that calculations are correct and the games come in various levels, from adding or subtracting two one-digit numbers to adding or subtracting two three-digit numbers.
Great fun and those who are good at calculating invariably win, whether they go first or second. These are just a small part of our great fun resources. Why not take a look now?
