Year 5 formal written multiplication The Year 5 Programme of Study states that pupils should be taught to multiply numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers. We have just published two new sets of worksheets on multiplying a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number and a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number. Squares are provided so that children can set these out using the correct layout.
