Year 2 money and coins
Year 2 money and coins
If there is one area of maths that children really do need to be proficient in to cope in the world around them, then it is money. In Year 2 children should be familiar with all the coins we use: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, £1 and £2. An important part of this is to be able to combine coins to make particular values and we have just published four great sets of worksheets with just this in mind. A variety of coins are given and children asked to find different ways of making a particular total. As always it is well worth having a large collection of coins available so children can use them to count up with and combine in a variety of ways.
The activities start with simple amounts such as making 8p in four different ways, using just 1p, 2p and 5p coins. The later sets are harder; for example making 22p in four different ways using a mixture of 2p, 5p and 10p coins.
Solutions can be drawn in the boxes provided, or real money put into piles of equal value.
