KS2 Arithmetic paper
KS2 Arithmetic paper: new this year
The new national curriculum will be assessed for the first time in May 2016 and there is a whole new paper – the Arithmetic Paper!
Paper 1 will be an arithmetic paper where the questions will be context free; in other words no word problems, just calculations. The test will assess number, calculations and fractions (which includes decimals and percentages).
Children will be expected to use formal written methods to solve arithmetic questions, including long multiplication and long division. For such questions there will be two marks; one mark may be awarded if an appropriate method is used but the final answer is incorrect. The Paper will only be 30 minutes long so children will need to work quickly and accurately.
To help with preparing for this test we have just published our first sets of worksheets covering addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The questions are all written horizontally and children will need to use the squared paper to set them out correctly and find the answers.
The sets cover:
Adding two 3-digit numbers
Adding two 4-digit numbers
Adding two numbers with more than 4-digits
Subtracting 3-digit numbers
Subtracting 4-digit numbers
Subtracting numbers with more than 4-digits
Multiply a 2-digit number by 1-digit
Multiply a 3-digit number by 1-digit
Multiply a 4-digit number by 1-digit
Multiply a 4-digit number by a 2-digit number
