Year 4 Weekly Programme Spring Term
Year 4 Weekly Programme Spring Term
We are continuing with our weekly programme for Year 4 with the next half term’s resources having just been published. Six weeks of mixed activities, covering a wide range of maths, although calculating is the main priority.
Week 13 looks at counting on and back in steps of 6, 7 and 9 as well as multiplying three small numbers together. Two new features are negative numbers and learning the 11x table. There are also pages on the formal method of short division and using Roman numerals, so there is plenty for children to get stuck into this week.
Week 14 concentrates on decimals and fractions, with activities on equivalent fractions, converting decimals to fractions, finding pairs of fractions which total 1 and adding fractions with the same denominator. Once all this has been done there is also some quick mental arithmetic.
Week 15 has worksheets on using decimals with money and solving single step word problems. There are also pages on estimating 3-digit addition and finding 1000 more or less than a number. Perhaps the most important pages are on the formal written method of multiplying.
Week 16 takes a look at some different maths, including co-ordinates in the first quadrant, symmetry and nets of 3-D shapes. As with most weeks there is also plenty of material on mental arithmetic, including the weekly oral questions and an excellent page on ‘intelligent maths’ where children are expected to use the knowledge they have to quickly work out related questions.
In Week 17 we take a look at ordering larger numbers and adding several small numbers mentally as well as finding the perimeter of simple shapes. Estimating 3-digit subtraction and plenty of mental calculations complete the week.
We complete the half term with some more multiplying of 3 small numbers and mental addition as well as finding the area of simple shapes and ordering decimal fractions.
Many of the pages are in pairs and it may well not be necessary to complete both of a pair. If your child is doing really well and completing a page easily and correctly there is no need for the second page; unless they really want to do it!
