Year 6 time word problems: Grand Prix racing
It’s always good if a theme or topic can be built into maths worksheets. We have a great many sets of pages, especially in the lower year groups, but less so in Year 6. Our most recent set of pages is a start at rebalancing this.
The theme is Grand Prix racing. Times recorded by drivers at real races such as the Austrian and Canadian Grand Prix are given to the nearest thousandth of a second and various questions follow. One such question is:
Lewis Hamilton did one lap in 1 minute 11.475 seconds. If he raced at the same speed for 10 laps how long would it take him?
These are by no means simple, as working with both thousandths of a second and converting to minutes will take a good understanding of both decimals and time.
