Upper Primary Spelling: further resources
Spelling continues unabated right through the primary age range, including the now statutory word lists. However, there is much more to do than just the lists, including taking a close look at word endings. We already have a great set of word ending spelling activities for middle and upper primary children and have just added three more sets of worksheets. The first looks at words ending with ANT, such as consultant, deodorant and restaurant; all quite tricky!
We also take a look at how adjectives can be made into nouns by changing the word ending. For example, adjectives ending in ‘ant’, such as tolerant, can be made into nouns by replacing the ‘ant’ with ‘ance’: tolerance.
In a similar way adjectives ending with ‘ent’ can be made into nouns by changing the ending to ‘ence’. For example: different – difference.
As always, the worksheets include a variety of activities including finding word meanings, completing sentences, a crossword and ‘Look, say, cover, write check’.
These words ending in ‘ant’, ‘ance’, ‘ent’ and ‘ence’ are all part of the statutory requirements in the Years 5 and 6 programme of study.
The worksheets can be found in Middle/Upper Primary Spelling/Word Endings
