Year 6 Arithmetic Paper: easy questions for easy marks
Year 6 Arithmetic Paper: easy questions for easy marks
It is very important for children taking the new Key Stage 2 Maths Arithmetic Paper that they get the early questions correct. After all, a mark for the easiest question counts for exactly the same as a mark for the hardest question.
There are several questions taken from the Year 3 Programme of Study, especially with addition and subtraction, including questions such as:
468 – 9 =
and
979 + 100 =
Rather oddly, each question is accompanied by a large area of squares, which clearly suggests that the calculations should be written down on these squares, but it would be much easier to do the above calculations mentally, or ‘in your head’, and just write the answers down.
We have just added a large range of worksheets covering the easier questions, including:
Find 100 more than (3N2b)
Find 100 less than (3N2b)
Add a 3-digit number and a single digit (3C1)
Add a 2-digit number to a 3-digit number (3C2)
Add a 3-digit number and hundreds (3C1)
Subtract a single digit from a 3-digit number (3C1)
Subtract tens from a 3-digit number (3C1)
Subtract a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number (3C2)
Subtract hundreds from a 3-digit number (3C1)
With four or five questions of this type on the paper most children should be able to get these correct and pick up some easy marks.
