Year 1 Sorting Data
Over the last few months we have been inundated with statistics as never before and the ability to interpret graphs and charts is more important than it has ever been. It is slightly surprising therefore that statistics is not included in the new Maths Programme of Study for Year 1. We believe that children should gain an introduction to collecting and sorting information in lists and tables and making tally charts. Children can also be shown how the results can be presented in the form of a block graph. Diagrams such as Venn and Carroll can also be introduced to sort objects into groups. This week we have just published a simple sorting activity using the number of letters in names.Go to Year 1 Statistics
