Year 1: Shape
Year 1: ShapeMany schools now introduce 3D shapes before 2D shapes – this makes a lot of sense as the 2D shapes can be seen from looking at 3D shapes. Simple 3D shapes such as cubes, cuboids, cylinders, cones and spheres are introduced in Year 1 and children need plenty of practice handling them and looking at them in different orientations. Later they start to see 2D shapes on the faces of the 3D shapes, in particular squares, rectangles triangles, and circles. We have just published a fun set of pages which looks at building models out of 3D shapes and naming them. This is a great addition to our extensive range of resources on both 3D and 2D shape.Go to Year 1 Shape
