Upper KS2 Spelling ‘ice’ or ‘ise’?

Should you write practice or practise? If you are American the answer is very simple as they only use the ‘ice’ version – practice. If you are from the UK then it all gets a little bit trickier.Practise should be used when it is a verb, or ‘doing’ word. For example:Farah is going to practise the flute for an hour every evening.Practice should be used when it is a noun. Tip: if you can put ‘a’ or ‘the’ in front of it, it is almost certainly a noun and should be spelled with a ‘c’. For example:The football practice starts at 7.00 every Thursday. If you are uncertain then think about ‘advice’ and ‘advise’, which follows the same rule: advice is a noun and advise is a verb. Or you could consider, a licence which is a noun or to license which is a verb. For more practice on all of these take a look at our latest English spelling pages for Upper KS2.Go to English: Upper KS2: Spelling: Word Endings
