Year 1 New: Halving Chains
Some children become fascinated by numbers and their attributes which will lead them to ask, and try to solve, all kinds of questions. One such question could be ‘How many times can you halve a number whilst still keeping a whole number answer?’ It is not always the largest number.
This very question will always interest anyone trying to organise a knock-out tournament which ends with a final of two teams. It is no coincidence that the World Cup usually has 8 groups with two qualifying from each group.
Our new worksheets this week take a look at this idea with small numbers up to 20.
