Bar charts are a key feature of teaching data handling in Year 3. They are a simple visual way way of displaying information. It is important that children get to know the terms vertical and horizontal axis and what scale is being used. In Year 3 the numbers on the vertical axis usually go up in ones, twos, fives or tens.
