New! Year 5 and Year 6 Co-ordinates
The targets for work connected to co-ordinates in Years 5 and 6 are as follows:
5P2 Identify, describe and represent the position of a shape following a reflection or translation, using the appropriate language, and know that the shape has not changed.
6P2 Draw and translate simple shapes on the co-ordinate plane, and reflect them in the axes.
6P3 Describe positions on the full co-ordinate grid (all four quadrants).
We have just published two sets of worksheets to help with fulfilling these targets. The first is a straightforward page asking children to record the co-ordinates of points marked on a grid in the first quadrant, suitable for revision for Year 5. The second asks children to translate and then reflect shapes shown on a grid, using all four quadrants, perfect for Year 6. This is a particularly good exercise as these types of question often appear in the SAT Papers.
