Vocabulary: Sayings Using Colours
As we look forward to a warm and sunny summer term we would like to highlight a great set of worksheets on common sayings which use colour. Our language contains a surprising number of these and children do need to understand their often quirky meanings. Examples of using the colour green, include:
- ‘green fingers’
- ‘green with envy’
- ‘seek greener pastures’
Other colours often used in sayings, or idioms, include black, white and red. We have also published worksheets on more descriptive words than the usual blue, red, purple, yellow, green and brown. Many children have a love of more unusual words and will enjoy using words such as sapphire, scarlet and vermillion in their writing.
