Year 1 New Resources: Counting in the Teens
An important stage in children’s progress with number is when they progress from counting up to ten to counting in the teens and beyond. Plenty of practice counting verbally up to 20 is needed as the numbers do not repeat the pattern of counting up to ten. In particular, children may find the numbers 11, 12, 13 and 15 tricky as they cannot hear the 1, 2, 3 and 5 in them. Also watch out for children who reverse the digits when writing them down, for example writing 51 instead of 15. This is very common.
Number tracks are a good way to support children, allowing them to continue to count from different starting points and our latest sets of worksheets are just the job for this.
