Children in Year 1 will have worked with time to the hour and half hour, but they will need to revisit this during Year 2 before going on to tell the time to a quarter hour, or to 5 minutes.

Clock faces are crucial for this, With half past the hour, the minute hand is at 6 and the hour hand is half way between two numbers. It is important that children recognize that the time will be half past the number that the hour hand has just moved past.
