Resources and images can really help children to recognize equal and unequal groups. They need to see lots of examples of equal groups and our latest sets of pages will really help with this. Images of sets of footballs, cricket balls etc are shown, some of which are in equal groups and some not. It is important that they see equal groups that are arranged in different ways, so that they recognize that groups can look different but still be equal.

This will lead onto children creating equal groups of their own. This work is really important as a starting point for fraction work, recognizing halves, quarters etc.
