Year 3: Shape – drawing polygons using dotted paper
Geoboards and elastic bands are great resources for helping children understand 2D shapes, but if you haven’t got easy access to a geoboard then dotted paper is the next best thing. You will find all sorts of graph, isometric and dotted paper in our free resources at:
https://urbrainy.com/maths/resources/graph-paper
The geoboard allows children to explore how to make shapes and they can then use the dotted paper to draw them with a pencil and a ruler.
An important part of this work is that children recognise the properties of shapes and that there is usually more than one way to draw a shape.
We have just published three new sets of pages on drawing polygons using dotted paper and terms such as vertices, parallel, and perpendicular. Good fun, but also a challenge!
