On-screen Practice in Year 6 for Number and Place Value
Many of the latest developments in teaching maths have originated in the Far East including Singapore and Shanghai, where children generally make exceptional progress. Part of this approach is ‘same day intervention’. One of the aims of same day intervention is to help those children who have not yet fully grasped aspects of maths taught during the main lesson by giving them extra time later in the day, including having some independent practice time. This is where our on-screen maths activities can be really useful, supplying unlimited practice for specific number skills. Computer marked answer sheets instantly show success and less teacher/teaching assistant time is needed. Our Year 6 on-screen activities are set out in the following categories:
More than or less than: Working with very large numbers, finding 100,000 and 1,000,000 more than or less than.
Rounding: Rounding numbers to the nearest 10,000, 100,000 or one million. Tricky!
Order of operations: Calculating using the correct order, including the use of brackets.
Negative numbers: Adding with negative numbers.
Algebra: Understanding and using algebra for the first time.
