By Year 6 the targets are challenging, with children needing to be able to read and write numbers from 1 hundredth to 10 million in both words and digits. That’s 0.01 to 10,000,000. Thousandths may also be introduced (0.001).

They should be able to recognise the value of digits within numbers e.g. that the 5 digit in 15,000,000 has a value of 5 million whilst the 5 in 10,500,000 has a value of 500,000 and the 5 in 0.05 has a value of 5 hundredths.
