Year 6: Large Numbers

There is plenty of work to do to ensure that children are confident with working with numbers in the millions. Part of this is to learn how the numbers are said, for example 2,345 is read as, “two thousand, three hundred and forty-five” rather than, “two-three-four-five”. Another important idea to understand is the consistency in the pattern of the place value columns:
Ones, tens, hundreds, then (ones of) thousands, (tens of) thousands, (hundreds of) thousands and (ones of) millions, (tens of) millions, (hundreds of) millions.
Our latest set of worksheets asks children to write numbers up to hundreds of millions in digits and in words, as well as mentally calculating with these large numbers. Very tricky!
